Jesse Lingard and Anthony Martial have returned to Manchester following their respective holidays in Dubai.
Neither Manchester United star has been involved with their international side during the current break and therefore took the opportunity to relax when they had no playing commitments.
Lingard was spotted on the streets of Manchester overnight, while Martial arrived back at the airport in the morning.
John Stones and Nicolas Otamendi, who play for United’s rivals Manchester City, were also snapped upon their return to the north west.
City defender Stones and United forward Lingard would both have been involved in the England squad if they had not suffered injuries just prior to the international break.
Lingard was left out of Gareth Southgate’s squad but managed to feature against Wolves in the FA Cup, raising questions over whether he should have been available for England.
Southgate admitted he was baffled to see Lingard start against Wolves just days after he had been ruled out of international duty through injury.
‘I mean I was surprised that he started the game, but only because he hadn’t trained before the Wednesday so I guess you would have to talk to [Manchester] United as to why they took that decision,’ Southgate said earlier this week.
‘I am imagining partly because they were missing so many players as well. But as I say, he wasn’t comfortable with it in the game and that was the conversation I had with him.
‘Having seen him against Wolves, I spoke to him because I wanted to see how he saw it. He felt that although he had played, he was very conscious of it and at risk during the game. He felt that he probably needed another period of training to be fit and strong.
‘In those situations, I’ve known the player long enough that I’ve got to trust his judgement.
‘We could have called him in and assessed him and done what we’ve done with Marcus (Rashford) but it’s a different sort of injury with the hamstring and more likely to recur.’
Stones and Lingard had earlier put club rivalries aside and spent time with a talented chimp during a visit to the zoo while in Dubai.
After walking around the park and spotting several different animals, the pair were treated to some time with a skillful chimp inside a tent.
Both players greeted the chimp with a friendly pat on the back before it then perched on a stool and had some food.
The chimp went on to perform a host of tricks for them and the others involved on a central stage. It spun around several times before appearing to dance.
It then cosied up to Lingard on the sofa and smiled on queue as it posed for a picture with the midfield ace. The United star, dressed in a white thawb, then kissed it on the lips before the chimp got down onto the floor.
